Rejected By This Generation - Prayer Monday

Have you ever been disappointed in love?

Fallen out with a friend?

Needed something and received nothing?

Felt used and disregarded when you needed the people around you the most?

Been misunderstood and misinterpreted?

Is there a need for understanding?

We all need emotional support from friends and our family.

It is reasonable to pray for it.

But remember that our Savior was misunderstood by His closest friends and family.

“But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.”
Luke 17:25

Would it be wiser to ask for understanding for ourselves?

So that we can have the Lord’s attitude of love towards those who have misunderstood and rejected us.

“Dear God, I long to be understood and supported by my friends and family. I long for people who will commit to be there when I need them. I long for emotional support without reserves. But I can read in Your Word that it’s better to give than receive. That You Yourself were misunderstood and even despised and even though you loved those same people all over again. Help me to have Your attitude of love towards those who misunderstand and reject me. Help me to be there for them, to understand them and support them. Help me to give them the emotional support that they need. Amen.”

This message is part of the Prayer Monday series.

  1. Wiser to ask for understanding of ourselves first is such a great attitude... and we don't see it talked about often... this really has me thinking Joanna!!!

  4. This is encouraging. We too often have high expectations that others will support us in exactly the way we need. But everyone is human and will fall short. Only Jesus is perfect in His love. And yet even He didn't have the full support of others either. Why should we expect better? Thanks for sharing!

    1. Very well put, Lisa. Sadly we do expect Him to make the life easier for us. And it's so hard to understand that the difficulties actually make everything better for us.

  5. I think sometimes we get in the habit of asking our friends and family first instead of asking God. And the truth is, sometimes God's Word is very contrary to popular opinion! A good reminder here!

    1. That is so true, Jen. We are, in some sense, our friends and family, just like we are our culture. It shapes who we are. And when we read the Bible we see it trough that culture, and try to understand it trough our understanding. Then when there comes things that are against what we think is right, comes also the conflict.

  6. What a great prayer, one that we should be praying, to have God's heart with how we deal with disappointment and misunderstanding. Thanks for sharing at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings
